This year, Australia Wine & Spirits proudly presents the Massenez Masters – Golden Eight Edition.

In honour of the 10th Anniversary of Golden Eight by Massenez, this national competition invites Australia’s best bartenders to create an original cocktail showcasing one of France’s most celebrated pear liqueurs.

Beginning with local competitions across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, the competition will culminate at the National Final during Sydney Bar Week, where Australia’s best will compete for the opportunity of a lifetime.

The competiton

State Selection

Following the close of entries, six finalists will be selected from each participating state:

  • Victoria
  • New South Wales
  • Queensland
  • South Australia
  • Western Australia

State Finals

Finalists will present their cocktail live before an expert panel of respected hospitality professionals in their home state.

One winner from each state will be selected to progress to the National Final.

National Final

State winners will travel to Sydney during Sydney Bar Week to compete in the Massenez Masters National Final.

The National Final will be judged by an esteemed panel of Australian and international industry experts, including Bernard Baud, President of Massenez.

Massenez Masters 2026 – Golden Eight Edition (« Competition »).

 

Massenez Masters is a national skill-based cocktail competition designed to showcase creativity, technical excellence, and bartending expertise using Massenez products.

The Competition will be conducted in multiple stages:

  • Entry Submission Stage
  • State Final Stage
  • National Final Stage
  • International Prize Experience

Winners will be selected solely on merit and judging criteria. This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining winners.

Entry is open to individuals who:

  1. are aged 18 years or over;
  2. are Australian residents;
  3. are currently employed in a licensed hospitality venue in Australia at the time of entry;
  4. hold all licences, visas and employment rights necessary to work in Australia;
  5. are available to travel to Sydney, New South Wales for the National Final during Sydney Bar Week in September 2026; and
  6. hold or are capable of obtaining a valid passport and any required visas to travel internationally should they win the National Final.

The Promoter reserves the right, at its absolute discretion, to verify the eligibility of any entrant at any time. This may include requesting evidence or documentation relating to an entrant’s identity, age, residency, and employment.
The following persons are ineligible:

  • Employees of the Promoter;
  • Employees of G.E. Massenez;
  • Competition judges;
  • Immediate family members of the above.

State Finals: TBC

National Final: 16 September, 2026 in Sydney, NSW

The Promoter reserves the right to amend these dates where reasonably necessary.

To enter, eligible entrants must:

  1. Complete the online entry form;
  2. Submit an original cocktail recipe meeting all Competition requirements;
  3. Include the mandatory Massenez products specified by the Competition;
  4. Provide all requested information; and
  5. Agree to these Terms and Conditions.

Entry is free.

Multiple entries may be submitted provided each entry is materially different.

All submitted recipes must:

  • Be the entrant’s original creation;
  • Not infringe any intellectual property rights;
  • Comply with all published Competition requirements;
  • Include the designated Massenez product(s) specified for the Competition.

As a guide, the Promoter suggests a minimum of 30ml Massenez, or 20ml for lower-ABV style drinks, with Golden Eight clearly featured.

The Promoter may disqualify any entry deemed plagiarised, offensive, misleading, unlawful or inconsistent with the Competition objectives. If an entrant submits an entry that gives rise to any claim, dispute, demand, or legal proceedings (including any allegation of intellectual property infringement, defamation, or breach of law), the entrant will be solely responsible for such matters and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Promoter against any loss, damage, liability, cost, or expense arising from or in connection with such claim or proceedings.

Judging scores are final and the judging material and score remains confidential.

No correspondence regarding judging outcomes will be entered into.

Selected entrants may be invited to participate in a State Final on their own expense.

State Finalists must:

  • Attend the designated venue;
  • Prepare and present their cocktail within allocated timeframes;
  • Comply with all venue and event requirements.

Failure to attend may result in disqualification.

State winners will progress to the National Final in Sydney during Sydney Bar Week 2026.

State winners must be available to travel and participate in all required Competition activities.

The Promoter will cover reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for State Winners travelling from Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, and Queensland to attend the National Final, subject to any conditions or limitations specified by the Promoter.

The Promoter may substitute an alternative finalist if a State Winner is unable to attend.

The National Winner will receive a prize package which may include:

  • Return economy flights from Australia to France;
  • Accommodation;
  • Transfers;
  • Educational experiences;
  • Distillery visits;
  • Hosted hospitality experiences;
  • Other experiences determined by the Promoter.

Total prize value will be advised before the National Final.

Prize components may change due to operational requirements, supplier availability, force majeure, government restrictions or safety considerations.

Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.

The National Winner acknowledges that:

  1. international travel is an essential component of the prize;
  2. they must hold a valid passport with sufficient validity for travel;
  3. they are responsible for obtaining any required visas, permits or travel authorisations;
  4. they must satisfy airline, immigration, customs and health requirements;
  5. failure to meet travel requirements may result in forfeiture of all or part of the prize;
  6. the winner is responsible for securing their own travel insurance.

The Promoter is not responsible for incidental purchases or costs of meals outside of organised activities on the trip.

The Promoter is not responsible for passport, visa or immigration issues.

Travel is subject to:

  • Airline availability;
  • Government regulations;
  • Border restrictions;
  • Supplier availability;
  • Force majeure events.

The Promoter may reschedule travel where reasonably necessary.

No compensation will be payable for delays or changes outside the Promoter’s control.

The Promoter will not be responsible for, and no compensation will be payable in respect of, any missed flights, delays, or failure by a State Finalist or a National Winner to attend as scheduled. Any costs associated with rescheduling travel or accommodation due to a State Finalist’s or National Winner’s failure to attend or arrive on time will be solely the responsibility of the State Finalists and National Winner.

Entrants retain ownership of their original recipes.

By entering, entrants grant the Promoter, G.E. Massenez and associated entities a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:

  • Publish recipes;
  • Reproduce entry materials;
  • Use photographs and videos;
  • Promote the Competition;
  • Promote Massenez products.

This licence includes use across digital, print, social media, public relations and educational materials.

Entrants consent to being photographed, filmed and recorded during all stages of the Competition.

The Promoter may use entrant names, venue names, images, videos and likenesses for promotional purposes without additional compensation.

Entrants must comply with all responsible service of alcohol laws and venue requirements.

The Promoter reserves the right to remove any participant whose conduct is unsafe, intoxicated or inappropriate.

Entrants acknowledge and agree that they are responsible for their own safety and must take reasonable care at all times during participation, including compliance with all venue safety instructions and responsible service of alcohol requirements.

The Promoter may disqualify any entrant who:

  • Provides false, misleading, or incomplete information;
  • Breaches these these Terms and Conditions;
  • Engages in misconduct, fraudulent activity, or inappropriate behaviour;
  • Brings, or is reasonably likely to bring, the Competition or the Promoter into disrepute; or
  • Attempts to manipulate, interfere with, or improperly influence the judging or selection process; or
  • is found to have breached any applicable law.

Privacy policy

The Promoter may collect and store personal information provided by entrants for the purpose of administering the Competition and for related purposes in accordance with applicable privacy laws. All such information will be retained for a period of seven (7) years from the date of collection, after which it will be securely destroyed or de-identified unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

The Promoter collects personal information including:

  • Name;
  • Contact details;
  • Employer and venue details;
  • Employment status;
  • State/Territory;
  • Date of birth;
  • Passport availability confirmation;
  • Competition submissions;
  • Photographs and videos.

Information is collected for:

  • Administering the Competition;
  • Verifying eligibility;
  • Contacting entrants;
  • Awarding prizes;
  • Marketing communications (where consent is provided);
  • Reporting and promotional purposes.

Personal information may be disclosed to:

  • G.E. Massenez;
  • Competition judges;
  • Event partners;
  • Travel providers;
  • Marketing agencies;
  • Professional advisers;
  • Technology service providers.

Where information is transferred overseas, reasonable steps will be taken to protect privacy in accordance with Australian privacy laws.

Entrants may opt-in to receive communications from the Promoter and G.E. Massenez.

Entrants may unsubscribe at any time.

Participation in the Competition is not conditional upon receiving marketing communications.

The Promoter will handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles and applicable Australian laws.

The Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Promoter, its officers, employees, agents, contractors, and affiliates (collectively, the “Indemnified Parties”) from and against any and all losses, liabilities, claims, demands, actions, costs, charges, expenses (including legal costs on a full indemnity basis), damages, and proceedings arising out of or in connection with:

  1. any breach by the Entrant of these Terms and Conditions;
  2. any negligent act or omission or wilful misconduct of the Entrant;
  3. any injury to persons or damage to property caused by the Entrant in connection with participation in the Competition; and
  4. any claim by a third party arising from the Entrant’s participation in the Competition.

This indemnity is a continuing obligation and survives the termination or completion of the Competition.

To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for, including but not limited to:

  • Lost, late or corrupted entries;
  • Technical failures;
  • Travel disruptions;
  • Third-party supplier failures;

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights under Australian Consumer Law.

The Promoter may amend, suspend or cancel the Competition where reasonably necessary due to circumstances beyond its control, legal requirements, safety concerns or operational reasons.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.

Entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.

Submission of an entry constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
